Phishing scams can be very aggressive and often specifically target the vulnerable. The attacker poses as a trusted third party in order to trick the recipient into clicking a malicious link, passing on log-in data or sensitive information, or opening an attachment that allows malware into the user’s system. This is very often the cause of ransomware attacks. Below are some tips to protect yourself from phishing scams:
1. Don’t open email from people you don’t know or from sources you don’t recognise
2. Always hover over links to see its source.
3. Check any URLs that you are sent. They may look like trusted sites but are often slightly misspelled and malicious.
4. Even friends and family can unwittingly spread malware if they have been phished or infected.
